Anglian Water pumping sewage into river as emergency measure

Anglian Water is pumping untreated wastewater into the river Ouzel in Leighton Buzzard, after heavy rainfall caused an overspill in the sewers.

The water company requested special permission from the Environment Agency (EA) to pump wastewater into the river temporarily. The EA granted Anglian Water a Local Enforcement Position (LEP), which can be revoked at any time if strict conditions are not met.

The affected pumping station has caused some residents on Mardle Road in Linsdale to have blocked toilets, and an overpump has been installed to take excess water out from the sewage system.
